Using What I Have

Good Tuesday to you!  I titled this post "Using What I Have" because while I was inspired by Linda Heller's card from her blog "Where the Rubber Hits the Road," I used a different stamp set.  She used the beautiful set called Touches of Texture on her card.  I don't have that set yet, but I loved the layout and the colors and I wanted to try it using something I already have.  Out of the retired cupboard came Flowering Fields.  I know many of you got this set during Sale-a-Bration.  I don't think I'll be letting go of it anytime soon.  It is a favorite of mine!

The base color is Dapper Denim.  I stamped tone-on-tone along the left edge with one of the stamps from Timeless Textures (page 120 of the Annual Catalog.)  The Designer Series Paper is Delightful Dijon from the Moroccan Series.

I used my Blender Pen with Early Espresso, Cajun Craze, Dapper Denim, Garden Green, and Delightful Dijon to color the flowers and the butterfly.  The little splotches are on purpose (ha!) and are also from Timeless Textures.  A little strip of some Cajun Craze Washi Tape, one of Crumb Cake for the sentiment from Happy Happenings, and Linen thread finishes it off.

This is what I did on the inside ~  the sentiment is from Happy Happenings (love that set!) and the same little butterfly as on the front, with a strip of the same DSP.

Try it using something you already have and send me a photo!  I would love to see what other versions you come up with!

Have a great day!

A-corny Card for PPA

It feels strange pulling out my acorn stamp set in June, but when I saw this week's challenge for the Pals Paper Arts, it's the set I immediately thought of.  Here is the challenge banner by Mary Fish that started my thought process:

After I decided on three acorns, I had to find something they would be falling from...  This flourish die from Flourish Thinlits kind of works for an oak tree branch, don't you think? It comes as part of a Bundle, if you so desire, with a 10% savings, which is smart shopping!

Now I need a background... Wow, I just got the DSP Stack called Serene Scenery Designer Series Paper Stack and there is this perfect sky page.  A quick layering with Very Vanilla onto Island Indigo and the card is almost done!

For the greeting I tried something new for the first time.  I stamped the greeting into Versamark Ink, then into Soft Suede ink, stamped it onto my background paper, then heat embossed it using Clear Embossing Powder.  Instant shine!

What do you think?  Do you like it?

Habit Tip:
When punching out the acorns, snip off the tiny stem before gluing the acorn top down over it.  You still get great placement without worrying about lining up that little stem perfectly. The same is true if you pop the acorn tops up on Dimensionals.

Hop on over to palspaperarts.com and see all the entries for this week's challenge.  I'm a little late getting into the game this week, but I did beat the deadline.  You can play too if you'd like!

Happy Stamping!

Look Who's Turning........

I have to tweak my little brother every year on his birthday.  I know that the big Calypso Coral 62 is going to jump right off the page at him!!  He'll say, "Yeah?  Who?  Not Me!"

Isn't this paper fun?  It's from the new Designer Series Paper Stack called A Little Foxy.  All grays, coral, and Pool Party in cheerful little patterns.  This is a 6" x 6" stack and you get a lot of paper - 48 double sided sheets for $10.  See it here.

I glued it to a piece of Basic Gray cardstock, then glued it to a Smoky Slate card base.  I cropped the numbers out of Calypso Coral using the Large Numbers Framelits Dies.  The Smoky Slate splatter is from Gorgeous Grunge and the Look Who's Turning is part of the Number of Years stamp set.

Inside, I trimmed out a little banner from the Foxy paper and glued it across the top.  The martini glass and birthday candle are from an old favorite set called Making Spirits Bright.  You can't really see it, but I used Wink of Stella inside the glass, which gives it a cool shine.

Then, for a little more fun...

I took a pinch of sequins from the June Paper Pumpkin kit and added them to the inside of his card.  Won't he be surprised?!!!

Never heard of Paper Pumpkin?  It is an all-inclusive craft kit that comes to you in the mail every month.  Each month is a surprise.  Often it will be for cards, sometimes it will be for other 3-D type crafts.  It's always fun to see and to make.  Check out the details on My Paper Pumpkin and give it a try!  Click here to read all about it.

If you would like to make my card, you can see the supplies I used down below.  Measurements are very simple, 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", folded at 4 1/4".  Layers are 5 1/4" x 4" and 5 1/8" x 3 7/8".

Until next time ~ Happy Stamping!
